Universal UNIVRS – a new, first-of-its-kind retail destination is now open at Universal CityWalk Hollywood. This brick-and-mortar store brings favorite brands from across NBCUniversal to life in a unique shopping destination that leans into the “get it before it’s gone” drop culture shopping mentality. Open in time for Halloween Horror Nights and seasonal holiday celebrations at Universal Studios Hollywood, UNIVRS is open 7 days a week.

Tapping into entertainment and fashion tastemakers through their style-driven offerings, merchandise at UNIVRS marries popular brand designs with current fashion silhouettes and trending styles, driven by favorite characters and iconic on-screen moments – such as Illumination’s Minions, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic Park and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and classic characters like Felix the Cat, Universal Monsters and more. Exclusive merchandise will be released in limited quantities; from tees and hoodies, to track suits and hats, to tote bags and skate decks, products will range in price from $30-$100 and in size from XS-2XL, across the mens, womens and unisex categories.

Developed by Universal Products & Experiences – a new division of Universal Parks and Resorts – the store aims to “drop” new styles in limited quantities every few months, with products available only at the UNIVRS store, which is located in the Universal Studio Store adjacent to the theme park’s main entrance.

With a focus on culture and creatives, UNIVRS also serves as a way to highlight international and local artists through exclusive merchandise. Artists from the UK and Korea – Marylou Faure and SAMBYPEN, respectively – worked with Universal on designs inspired by Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru that have been applied to various streetwear styles, such as bucket and corduroy hats, crop tank tops, matching sweatshirt and pant sets, track suits, tees and more. Additionally, Los Angeles-based artist, Jason Keam created a selfie wall mural in the UNIVRS store to celebrate the 40thanniversary of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial; this mural art will also inspire designs for exclusive apparel and totes – coming soon!

“This is a one in a million opportunity for me to celebrate the epic classic, E.T., through my creative lens,” said Jason Keam. “Growing up in Southern California, much like the kids in the film, I craved inspiration, friendships and adventure all the while staying connected to my family and community. My hope is that my artwork and involvement in this project conveys a playful spirit, sense of wonder and connection to our homes, no matter the galaxy.”

SeaWorld San Diego Announces New Family-Friendly Straddle Coaster, Arctic Rescue, to open in 2023!

  • Arctic Rescue will be the longest and fastest straddle coaster on the West Coast
  • New family-friendly ride with 48” height requirement has three exhilarating launches that increase in speed at each launch

SeaWorld San Diego is thrilled to announce that the highly anticipated coaster, Arctic Rescue, will open in Spring 2023. Joining other thrill rides at the theme park, Arctic Rescue will be the longest and fastest straddle coaster on the West Coast. This family-friendly multi-launch ride invites guests to hop on a snowmobile and launch at up to 40 mph on a chilly adventure as they race through the unpredictable arctic climate to help animals in danger. With its 48-inch height requirement, adventure seekers of all ages will enjoy the thrills and chills of Arctic Rescue.

SeaWorld’s coolest new coaster will feature a unique indoor launch station where passengers will start their journey inside of the Wild Arctic exhibit and launch outside straddling a unique snowmobile style vehicle. Guests will race through the Arctic and experience three exhilarating launches, each faster than the last, at 34, 38 and 40 miles per hour. The straddle snowmobile-style seats allow for an immersive ride experience for each rider as they lean into banks and turns and glide up heights as tall as 30 feet along the 2,800 feet of track. Manufactured by Intamin Worldwide, each train will hold 16 riders in eight, two-person rows. 

“We’re continuously looking for ways to add new experiences to the park for our guests and this new coaster is a great addition to our ride line-up and a perfect complement to the Wild Arctic exhibit,” said Jim Lake, SeaWorld San Diego Park President. “The ride is also an educational opportunity for guests to learn more about climate change, how it impacts animals in the Arctic and what they can do to help the issue. I truly feel that seeing these animals up-close at SeaWorld allows guests to build a stronger connection and encouragement to take action to help protect them.”

Unpredictable climate fluctuations and global warming is happening in the Arctic three times as fast as the rest of the planet.  As a result, the Arctic sea ice that many animals rely on for survival is melting, threatening the survival of many species and forcing them to change the way they hunt, breed, and migrate. The ride is inspired by the heroic efforts of the SeaWorld Rescue Team and their dedication to rescuing animals in distress and in need of care. Riders will race the unpredictable arctic climate to save these animals in danger. Arctic Rescue is incorporated in the Wild Arctic exhibit which is home to a ringed seal, walruses, and belugas, some of the species most impacted by Arctic sea loss. The new ride will bring awareness to the pressures the Arctic is facing and allow guests to visit, see and learn more about each animal whose species call the Arctic their home. 

Arctic Rescue will be the perfect addition for the Coaster Capital of San Diego and SeaWorld’s ever-growing ride portfolio, which includes Journey to Atlantis, Manta, Electric Eel, Tidal Twister and Emperor, voted one of 2022’s top best new attractions in the country by USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice poll. SeaWorld San Diego is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly fun at this year’s annual Spooktacular. Children of all ages will love trick-or-treating for ghoulish goodies during this daytime event as they explore SeaWorld San Diego in their Halloween costumes, walk through the decorated candy trail and meet a cast of colorful and not-so-spooky characters. The event runs every Saturday and Sunday from September 17 through October 30, plus Halloween Monday on October 31. The days will be full of immersive and family-friendly activities to get into the Halloween spirit.

Trick-or-Treating Around SeaWorld San Diego

Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat for candy and snacks along the park’s trick-or-treat candy trail. Each candy station along the trail features an assortment of sweet and salty favorites. A SeaWorld trick-or-trick bag is required and will be available to purchase to participate in trick-or-treating. Please note that guests who are ages 13 and older may not wear costume masks or hoods, and all costumes are subject to the normal dress code for the park. In addition, face painting is not permitted on any guests unless it is done by park artists.

Family-Friendly Halloween Experiences

Spooktacular will feature a variety of fun, family-friendly Halloween activities perfect for a spooky, fall day. Children of all ages will love meeting friendly Halloween mermaids in a special immersive experience along the trick-or-treat trail. Guests can also join a cast of silly characters for a Halloween Dance Party featuring popular Halloween-themed songs and family-friendly games like limbo, freeze dance, and more. Next to the dance party is a festive hay maze where families can explore and meet some fun fall characters along the way.

Families can also participate in a fun Spooktacular Pumpkin Hunt throughout the park! A map can be purchased at The SeaWorld Store to help track down SeaWorld and Halloween inspired painted pumpkins – plus, families that participate can exchange the completed map for a special prize!

Back by popular demand, SeaWorld Spooktacular will also include the celebration of the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos. Large, beautifully dressed Catrina statues will welcome guests as they discover ofrendas (offerings) of mementos and flowers honoring loved ones who have passed.  Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood is tempting guests with a terrifying menu of horror-inspired cuisine and a selection of exclusive merchandise themed to the 2022 event, which runs select nights Thursday, September 8 through Monday, October 31.

Fans of The Weeknd, who bravely step into his all-new haunted house for an unprecedented experience, can follow the Blinding Lights to the all-new The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare Bar, a space reminiscent of a late-night club as featured in The Weeknd’s music videos and short films. Guests can enjoy mixed drinks aptly named for the multi award-winning artist’s tracks plus nosh on light bites such as pizza fries. 

            Inspired by the nearby “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” haunted house, fans can dine at the Killer BBQ From Outer Space. The circus-themed eatery will serve up a variety of savory and sweet items including: BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwich, Loaded Mac & Cheese, shareable 22” All-Beef Hot Dog, Loaded Nachos, Funnel Fries, Acid Pie and specialty cocktails. Killer Klowns afficionados will also scream in delight for Jojo’s Ice Cream, dishing out tasty treats inspired by the horror-comedy, including the Killer Kone, Ruijing Popkorn Shake and Acid Pie Shake.

            In celebration of Los Angeles’ diverse culture, the Plaza de los Muertos is returning to Universal Plaza. Guests can toast the living and the dead with two bar options this year. The Dia de Los Muertos Bar will serve craft cocktails such as Calavera Juice, Sugar Skull Punch and Smoked Margarita in a festive light-up skull mug along with a Michelada option. A new Margarita Bar serves an assortment of libations, including a mixed Spicy Strawberry Vodka Margarita and Muerte Margarita along with a variety of frozen margarita options. The Weeping Witch is a monster disguised as a human. It lures people close by mimicking the sound of a woman crying. When people hear its wails, they follow the sound, thinking someone needs their help. Once they get close enough, the Witch reveals a mouth on the back of its head and slowly sucks the life out of its victims. If you choose to enter Madam Ruby’s study, that is what is awaiting you. Will you be able to banish the evil spirit and end your curse before the Weeping Witch consumes your soul?

Luke and Madison elevated the escape room industry with their award-winning games The Hex Room, The Fun House, The Psych Ward, and the 2019 immersive theatre experience, The Séance. This husband-and-wife team is determined to break the ‘escape room’ mold and create more unique, interactive, theatrical games.

Kids can participate in a memorable trick-or-treating experience along Ghost Town’s Main Street, Schoolhouse Road and Gold Mine Trail. During trick-or-treating, kids will interact with an array of spooky but friendly shopkeepers as little ones have the opportunity to show off their festive Halloween costumes. Guests can also visit the Livery Stable to get close and personal with the Creepy Critters of Calico. Spiders, bugs and more await at our Creepy Critters Corral. Whimsical jack-o-lanterns surround Calico Park as it changes into an enchanting Pumpkin Patch location for families to enjoy the season’s atmosphere with photo ops. Guests can get in the spirit by decorating their very own themed cookie or pumpkin right in the heart of Ghost Town. Miniature pumpkins or Halloween cookies will be available for a nominal fee. Little ghouls are also encouraged to strut their stuff and show off their Halloween Costumes in the Calico Carnival Costume Cavalcade hosted by the Calico Mayor and Cameo Kate at the Calico Mine Stage.

Gals and ghouls are in for a treat as the Bob Baker Marionette Theatre Show is back with their Halloween-themed show at Birdcage Theatre. These peculiar puppeteers will amaze all with a spooky puppet show that will have little ones and adults entertained all day.

Venture over to Camp Snoopy and hop aboard the Grand Sierra Railroad, where you can join Linus in the Pumpkin Patch as he and Sally await the arrival of The Great Pumpkin. Halloween isn’t complete without this timeless tale from the Peanuts Gang. Additionally, The Camp Snoopy Theater is hosting the Great Pumpkin Palooza show, where you’ll get more than a rock as you join Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang for a high-energy music tribute to the best holiday ever, Halloween!

The residents of The Timber Mountain Log Ride will celebrate the Halloween Hootenanny, which adds a family-friendly seasonal twist to a park favorite. Every year the citizens of Timber Mountain invite the mysterious creatures that live out in the woods and caverns of the area to join them as they celebrate the season at the Halloween Hootenanny. The ride’s interior features surprise after surprise as guests venture past the Calico Coffin Creeper Band, the town’s Green Witch and splash down Skull Mountain through a labyrinth of jack-o-lanterns – all set around an original song performed by Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies. The fun continues for little ones at the Calico Mine Ride as it undergoes a fantastical transformation into a candy wonderland! Grab a seat to explore the caves and caverns for candy confections but keep an eye out for the elusive Pink Fairy.

Head down to Gold Mine Trail, where guests can not only trick-or-treat, but also experience carnival games and ghoulish treats specially curated for this spooky season.

SeaWorld San Diego today announced the highly-anticipated new additions to Howl-O-Scream, the park’s separately ticketed nighttime Halloween event for mature audiences. The event is bringing even more nightmares to life with terrifyingly NEW Circus of the Damned and Area 64: Alien Outbreak haunted houses, Carnival of Chaos and Vampire Underground scAREAs, and Clown Gauntlet and Sea of Souls scare zones. Howl-O-Scream will also debut Darkness Falls, an ALL-NEW spectacularly dark and heart-pounding entertaining live performance show, and three new themed bars serving paranormally delicious cocktails. 

San Diego’s premier Halloween nighttime event returns to SeaWorld San Diego on select nights from September 16 through October 31. Howl-O-Scream is geared towards a mature audience and attendees can expect the unexpected with these new offerings appearing alongside with terrifying fan favorites from last year.

Navigate Two ALL- NEW Horrifying Haunted Houses

Fans of fear are challenged to go through all five haunted houses and survive the howls and screams from within. New additions to the event this year include two ALL-NEW haunted houses that will provide Howl-O-Scream guests with unexpected dismay and horror to navigate as they hide from outsiders from beyond and come face-to-face with freakish and creepy characters.

In Circus of the Damned, guests will navigate what was once the greatest circus in the world before it collapsed under a power-hungry, evil ringmaster who cursed the circus and its performers for all eternity. Now seeking to restore his cursed circus to its former glory by cursing new performers, guests must escape the ringmaster and his condemned crew before it’s too late.

Darkness and decay set the stage for guests who enter Area 64: Alien Outbreak. After they sneak through the fence and enter an abandoned government installation, they’ll face lethal security, mad scientists, and terrifying extraterrestrials who refuse to be contained.

Guests will also find terrifying thrills and chills in the event’s three returning houses. Escape a deadly doctor and medical experiments gone wrong in Nightmare Experiment, Simon the Butcher and his knife-wielding crew at Simon’s Slaughterhouse, and the evil Swamp Witch and her vengeful spirits at Death Water Bayou

Discover the Horrors of NEW Scare Zones and ScAREAs

With one ALL-NEW and one newly reimagined scare zones and two all-new scAREAs, guests will never know what immersive terror is lurking around every corner – or right behind them. 

Guests will face their childhood nightmares in the Clown Gauntlet scare zone as they run from merciless clowns with chainsaws in hand. In the newly reimagined Sea of Souls zone, guests will encounter powerful, alluring sirens that will tempt them into a watery grave.

Returning from last year, guests will also walk through pathways of creepy dolls at theDeadly Toys zone, undead evils at the Graveyard zone, a deadly legend at La Lloronazone and sinister monsters that lurk in the forest at The Hauntings zone.

New this year, guests can press their luck in the Carnival of Chaos scAREA and evade the disgruntled carnies sideshow clowns, and specialty performers who haunt the midway and would kill to make it to the big time. In the Vampire Underground scAREA, enter a nightclub where you can explore your deepest desires as humans and vampires peacefully co-exist… or can they? Attendees learn their fate while dancing amongst burlesque performers, incredible DJ’s and indulging in a sinfully delicious libation at the Blood Moon Bar.

Indulge in NEW Frightful Drinks and Entertainment

Three new themed bars, Toys N’ TonicBlood Moon Bar, and Big Top Drinks will be open throughout the park to serve guests dangerously delicious Halloween-themed drinks. They will join returning bars Simon’s Screamtorium, AmBARlance, and theHowl-O-Scream Bar, each located outside of the accompanying haunted house

Hidden throughout the mysterious three-part haunted house, guests will fearfully uncover three secret bars including Voodoo Blues, Expedition Base Camp, and Von Rose Distillery

“We are so excited to work with the incredibly talented team at HUSH and bring new elements to the already award-winning haunt. A secret bar is the ultimate immersive experience. Access is granted only to those lucky enough to acquire a token,” hinted Steven Sheldon, EPIC Entertainment Group. “Select characters and crew members throughout the event possess the tokens for access. Follow the mystifying clues hinting about the access points, present a token, and you’re in.”

Ticket holders are granted access to the secret bars through a branded token, which are acquired by interacting with monsters and characters, and also by looking for clues on social media. Guests that do not want to miss the secret bar experience can add-on to their tickets with the V.I.P. Bar Creep Pass (limited quantities available per night). For those select guests who are able to successfully decode the treachery and trickery laid upon them, HUSH’s secret bars will offer a small menu of spell-binding specialty cocktails and spooks.
