OINGO BOINGO DANCE PARTY ANNOUNCED AS HEADLINER FOR MIDSUMMER SCREAM’S NOCHE DE LOS MUERTOS BASH!

Johnny Vatos, Steve Bartek, John Avila and Other Original Members of Oingo Boingo Set to Rock Long Beach Convention Center During Nighttime Party on Saturday, July 30th, 2016

LOS ANGELES, May 11, 2016 – Let’s have a party, there’s a full moon in the sky! Midsummer Scream is thrilled to announce Oingo Boingo Dance Party will headline its Noche de los Muertos (Night of the Dead) celebration and costume contest at the Long Beach Convention Center Saturday evening July 30th, 2016.
Oingo Boingo Dance Party is comprised of former Oingo Boingo members Johnny Vatos, Steve Bartek, John Avila, Sam “Sluggo” Phipps, Carl Graves and Doug Lacy, along with a host of other wildly-talented musicians that keep the legacy of the iconic band alive and thriving for fans of multiple generations.
Known for their unique sound which includes explosive percussion, electrifying guitar riffs and a full horns section, Oingo Boingo’s extensive song catalogue includes Only a Lad, Little Girls, Weird Science, No One Lives Forever, and the venerable Dead Man’s Party. The band hosted Halloween shows in Irvine each year at the height of its popularity, with thousands of “Tender Lumplings” – the given nickname for their adoring fans – showing up in costumes and skeletal makeup, as the underlying thematic style of the group commonly centered around Dia de los Muertos.
“Oingo Boingo was synonymous with Halloween here in Southern California in the ‘80s and ‘90s,” said Rick West, Creative Director of Midsummer Scream. “What better way to launch our event than a concert featuring these legendary performers doing what they do best as Oingo Boingo Dance Party? To me, bringing these musicians and the haunt and horror community together under one roof is a no-brainer. They’re going to bring the house down!”
Oingo Boingo Dance Party will headline Midsummer Scream’s 21+ nighttime event, Noche de los Muertos, featuring a Best & Worst of the ‘80s Costume Contest, which will be judged by the band members themselves during the middle of their 90-minute concert performance. Midsummer Scream attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best – or worst – ‘80s Halloween costumes and strut their stuff across the stage as Johnny Vatos, Steve Bartek, John Avila, Sluggo and the gang cast final judgment!
For the ultimate Boingo fans in attendance, a limited amount of “Tender Lumpling Experience” passes are now available for purchase, which offers admission to the Noche de los Muertos party, as well as a personal meet-and-greet opportunity with the band that includes photos and autograph signing prior to the concert.
“Having Oingo Boingo Dance Party as part of our event was something the team wanted to do from the get-go,” said Gary Baker, Executive Producer of Midsummer Scream. “Very quickly, Johnny Vatos and the band were interested, which set everything in motion. We’re going to put on a show that no one will soon forget.”
Face-painters will be on hand to transform guests into fearsome skeletons or sweet sugar skulls if they’d like before and during the party for a small price – perhaps a golden coin, or a shiny silver dollar on either eye.
Tickets for Noche de los Muertos featuring Oingo Boingo Dance Party are now on sale at http://www.MidsummerScream.org, and will be sold throughout the day Saturday July 30th including at the door. Tender Lumpling Experience passes will sell out extremely fast – there is a frightfully limited supply!
Midsummer Scream is California’s premier Halloween, haunt and horror festival featuring more than 100,000 square feet of artisan vendors, live entertainment, specialty workshops, makeup demonstrations, a multipurpose theater, haunted attraction previews and experiences, Hall of Shadows darkened scare zone and more.
One of the biggest draws to Midsummer Scream are its world-class theme park panel presentations throughout the weekend. They include Knott’s Scary Farm (Sunday July 31st), Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor (Saturday July 30th), Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest (Sunday July 31st), Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights and Walt Disney Imagineering (Saturday July 30th).

Knott’s Scary Farm Opening Night 2015 Review!

Knott’s Scary Farm Opening Night 2015

IMG_25210000 IMG_30740000 Opening night is always fun and exciting at Knott’s Scary Farm; the event that Fans, Haunters, and the creative team behind Scary Farm look forward to all year long! This year The Fright Zone and I did what we could with what time we had, no worries we both have passes and will be back soon enough! So we will cover what we got to see on opening night, so be sure to look out for future reviews.

IMG_25180000 IMG_25870000

We got in 30 mins late so we missed the opening ceremony, one thing I noticed right away that it was not as crazy crowed like last year’s opening nights, I thought with maybe Ghostrider being under refurb that would not help with crowd control but we all know where everyone was at… Infected and Paranormal INC. Sadly we didn’t get to Infected opening night, sorry Jon we will soon 😉 However, let’s just start with Paranormal INC., because OMG!

IMG_25790000

Paranormal INC.

IMG_80480000 IMG_26730000

This has got to be the maze of the year for me, even Mary (AKA: The Fright Zone) thought so too. One of the things that I love most was it had a pre-show with back story and it was full of surprises!

The sets are amazing, the effects are superb, lighting, sound and everything is just OMG! I’ve never seen anything like it, plus the backstory was so cool, so I’m not going to spoil much 😉 But you need to make this one on your must do list while at Scary Farm, get yourself a Fright Lane so you can go over and over and not miss a THING! It’s so amazing I was smiling so much I cried! 😉 The scares were on point classic Haunted House style, which is what I love! Exclent work to Jon Cook, the cast and the team behind the production! You are all Amazing!!!!

My Bloody Clementine

IMG_26230000 IMG_30540000

The mine ride this year has a Haunt overlay with live Monsters since Invasion Below from 2011!

It was nice to see the mine ride with monsters in it again, last year the Mine Ride went under major refurbishment; this made it even better for haunt overlays with a new sound system and new lighting! I know some were worried about Knott’s putting monsters in the mine ride again after the major work done, but, from what it looks like monsters are only near emergency exits and have harnesses on them to protect them from falling onto the tracks! Our first run through was not so good, we got stopped halfway through, but got to try it again! It’s nice, dark and foggy inside; some things you could not see so well, maybe just first night kinks, but never the less it’s a great atddishion to scary farm this season! It reminds me of classic Knott’s Scary Farm (1990s) lets hope maybe they could do something like this on the log ride, simple yet effective! All in all we loved it, great work Daniel and the team! By the way… we were stuck on the mine ride for a total of  30 min. therefore taking up time that we could’ve used to go see The Hanging, other mazes and Infected.

IMG_30530000 IMG_25990000

The Dead of Winter

IMG_30670000 IMG_30580000

This maze was cool, we did got to try out the Key Room and it was full of jump scares! The sets looked great, the space was used very well, they are not using the whole Boardwalk ballroom because they are using the right side for Knott’s Spooky Farm! It was cool to see frozen bodies in the floor, reminds me of a few old mazes from the Halloween Haunt days. Let’s not forget how nice and cold it is in there, it’s the coldest maze at Scary Farm! It’s very White and Bright in there but that doesn’t mean its not scary 😉 Don’t be fooled thinking your safe in the Snow 😉 Great to see another maze by Gus, nice work everyone! By the way, Gus, Mary LOVED the spiders and the Snow Queen 3:)

IMG_30570000 IMG_30660000 IMG_80370000

Voodoo: Order of The Serpent

IMG_26570000

The key room is all new so go check it out, we missed it so next time 😉

Voodoo last year was one of my favorites with jump scares, choose your own adventure and the amazing New Orleans Voodoo theme.

This year a lot has changed, instead of choose your own adventure, it’s just a flow through.

The maze had lots of classic jump scares that most haunted attractions don’t do anymore. The ending is extended and makes more sense now! It’s a great maze, I’m glad they changed it up and made it a lot longer! Great work Jon and the team! Mary still Thinks you are an awesome designer. 😉 *Mary told me to write this and to add the winky face with it* LOL!

Trick or Treat

IMG_26520000 IMG_26490000

This maze has been here since 2012, but it got a much needed make over to renovate it and making it longer! Funny part about the night was this maze scared us the most, we jumped multiple times and it started before we walked into the door hahaha, the monsters were on point! They came at us left and right making us jump! Be sure to go check out the Green Witch’s house! Great Job Team!

Pinocchio Unstrung

IMG_25000000

This maze was one of my favs last year so we gave it a go again. We tried the Key Room, it was funny and scary! The only thing that sucks about the key rooms is you can’t always hear the talent talking; maybe a mic and sound system for the key rooms wouldn’t be a bad idea in the future. I liked how they were miked up in Paranormal INC.

Not too much has changed about Pinnochio, but the monsters are always full of energy! Looks like the cricket at the end got more scary, Mary absolutely loves that Cricket 😉 Great job team! 🙂 See you again soon!

Elvira’s Asylum

IMG_30180000 IMG_30380000

I wasn’t too thrilled about Elvira’s show last season. :/ But WE LOVED this one; the dancing  and acrobatics are amazing, the costumes are perfect and the sets are perfect! The show is funny with lots of boob jokes 😉 Great job to the crew and team behind the show we will definitely be back to see Elvira’s Asylum! Mary would like to add that she absolutely loved the show except the music to the arial preference of the Nympho inmate with the ear driving dubstep.

Knott’s Hotel Pre-Scare Dinner

IMG_8019 IMG_8020

We had dinner at the Hotel before we went to Scary Farm, it’s creepily decorated, dark, with spooky background music, and monsters lurking around. Plus the food is good, it’s Knott’s so of course the food is great. All you can eat buffet for $24.99 each, you also get early entry to Knott’s Scary Farm! Mary would like to add that she loves this experience and it  is soooooooo Delicious and wonderfully spooky; she loves how the monsters are there to interact with the guests. She would also like to add that it is important to go to Scary Farm with a full stomach so you have the energy to be chased by the Street Monsters around the park without being in a bad mood of being hungry.

IMG_8029 IMG_8028 IMG_24660000 IMG_24640000 IMG_24770000 IMG_24820000

That’s all we got to cover this visit! I would like to add that we did get a chance to see “The Deadly Seven” lurk around the scare zones! They are a creepy addition this year; at first I didn’t know what to think about them but once you see them lurking around the fog… it’s creepy 😉 We will be back to cover anything we missed and the Scare Zones mainly so keep an EYE out and thanks for reading! Also, Thank you to all the MONSTERS, Talent, Designers and all the people who brought this amazing event LIFE! 3:)

Thanks for reading and please share!

Exclusive Sneak Peek of The 17th Door

Haunting the Tustin MarketPlace this October is a brand new attraction called The 17th Door, a fully immersive haunt that will chill you to the bone and make you SCREAM! We visited the Haunt last evening for a sneak peek of the new haunt… and we were AMAZED. We penned down this haunt in our calendar for the season as a definite must go. Not only the artistry and the amazing scenes impressed us, but also the story of the maze and these haunter’s journey to reach this amazing point of creating their own haunted attraction after years of being haunt fans. Will you join us on this journey through the twisted and terrifying world of The 17th Door? Good!

IMG_2088 IMG_6962
We met up with Heather Luther, the co-owner of “The 17Th Door” and she narrated their story as we lurked around the classroom of Gluttire University inside the Haunt. Her and her husband Robbie have been dreaming of making their own Haunt for the last ten years. They always have LOVED Halloween and Haunted Attractions. They would visit Knott’s Scary Farm, Horror Nights, Sinister Pointe and many others every year and they would always be in awe of how amazing it is to be in another world where monsters and fear lives. With every attraction her husband would be inspired by a scare tactic or a wonderful method of fear that he would want to “one day” apply to his own haunt. After years of being fans and dreaming they took the leap of faith this year and they are creating the Haunted Attraction they have always dreamed of creating.

IMG_1441

IMG_7097

The 17th Door is a fully immersive and interactive haunted attraction where you you will be lost in their world traveling amongst the 17 doors in the 30 minute experience.

“Sometimes going away to college is an amazing experience, unless you end up at a place like Gluttire University. Paula thought she could start again fresh after high school and escape her past. She believed she could leave it all behind and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. But what happens at Gluttire between classes isn’t just troubling, its pure evil. In a University like this, dreams only become nightmares and Paula waits to share her’s with you.

IMG_1436

Come walk with Paula for over 30 minutes through The University and its seventeen rooms of psychological terror… A place so sinister that the personal demons of her past take pig form and roam the campus waiting to haunt her. In this decrepit institution, where evil breeds unchecked, go along with Paula as her life falls hard and fast down a spiral of torture: uncontrollable purging, excessive abuse and bodily harm. Try to calm your senses and gather your courage as you progress from room to room because under the disturbed and watchful eye of this monstrous school, each space tests your emotions and endurance more than the last.

If you think you are prepared to enter Paula’s world, then know this: everything inside this realm, which assaults your senses, is real. All you’ll feel on your flesh, the heat and the freezing chill, is real. The putrid odor that invades your nose from the stench of her rotting life is real. Know that when you walk into the frozen locker and are surrounded by the carcasses of her demons, what hangs from those hooks is real. And when you linger in her dorm room, what scurries under your feet and along the walls is real. The question is: can you make it? Can you walk in Paula’s shoes through the dissolution of her life to withstand what’s behind that final door? Or will you want to escape along with her…perhaps even before her? Can you survive this, or will you scream MERCY in order to be escorted out of this nightmare? Are you brave enough to make it through… The 17th Door?”

Each room is highly detailed, immersive and will make you question if you are still in the “real world”. I am extremely excited for this haunted attraction and am very impressed with the amount of artistry in this haunt. If you love haunts this is one NOT TO MISS this year… totally a MUST GO! For you hardcore Scary Farm fans who have not been to visited other haunt other than Halloween Haunt, this maze is like Trapped except with a singular storyline that you are fully caught up in and make you question if YOUR world even existed. Additionally, it is not far from Scary Farm being located within the OC. So all YOU peeps in the OC you got a new haunt coming at ya!

IMG_1447

IMG_1434

Some last thoughts about this haunt… as a Haunter and a Haunt fan I am super excited for this haunt and I admire these people at the 17th Door for making their dream a reality. This is an amazing story about people who have a passion for haunts and they make their darkest nightmares a reality! YOU GO 17th Door!!! Knott’s Network, The Fright Zone, and the haunt community of So. Cal. are ready to see your dark creation UNLEASHED!!!!

IMG_1445

Thank you all for reading this write up on The 17th Door, we hope that all you haunt fans pay a visit to this new haunt and check out all the amazing haunts that Southern California has to Offer. We are sure as HELL excited for Haunt Season 2015! Thank you to the 17th Door for inviting us over to your haunt for the sneak peek… it was amazing.

The brand new Lullaby maze will take guests on a frightening voyage with Dark Harbor’s youngest soul, Scary Mary, who has haunted the Queen Mary ever since her horrific drowning in the poolroom in 1952. Dark Harbor will also welcome the new Side Show of Freaks and Oddities and the Side Show Bar that will bring guests up close into the grotesque world of freaks.

Knott’s Scary Farm Preview 2015!

On Aug. 26th 2015 Knott’s Berry Farm hosted the 3rd annual Scary Farm Passholder Preview! This year it was a little later than the last few years, also it was a lot hotter, most passholders came early to get their wristbands then stayed away from the heat but few of the hardcore Haunt fans queued up all day to be the first ones inside!

Haunt fans even dressed up for the occasion even though it was 92 degrees out!

Lets talk about Scare Zones!

Ghost Town Streets has been expanded no safe place to hide in Ghost Town anymore, more monsters more Fog, more Screams! My fav Scare Zone 😉

Ghost Town Streets is the original and largest, most terrifying scare zone that started it all.   Bands of half-human, half-animal monsters prowl the streets and inhabit the fog, and beware the notoriously startling sliders, who lunge from in every fog-filled corner of the land.  Fiesta De Los Muertos fuses dance music, colorful costumes, and larger than life stilt walkers in a dance party scare zone.  It’s the ultimate late night celebration of Dia de los Muertos.  On the Boardwalk clowns crave your undying attention in the CarnEVIL scare zone.

Returning Mazes!

Black Magic: Houdini’s vengeful spirt continues to wreak havoc on the Faux Theater, where the veil between the living and the dead is severed. Houdini’s ghost comes alive and ushers a host of demonic illusions to play tricks on anyone who intrudes, only to finally meet Houdini in a show-stopping finale. Back for its third year, Black Magic is one of the most popular mazes at Scary Farm.

Forevermore: Follow the destruction of the “Forevermore Killer,” one haunting tale after another, as the slayer makes his way through one of the longest mazes ever created in Knott’s Scary Farm’s history.  With a Skeleton Key, guests can witness the work of the Forevermore Killer firsthand.

The Gunslinger’s Grave: A Blood Moon Rises: Deadly howls and a full blood moon mark your impending doom as werewolves overrun the crime stricken old west town. Walk in the bloody footsteps of a betrayed and left for dead gunslinger on his path of retribution against the Skinwalkers.

-more-

Pinocchio Unstrung: Years have passed since the blue fairy denied him his final wish, but Pinocchio has returned with an army of murderous marionettes intent on killing his former masters. Meander your way through the carnage-riddled village and an all new sinful Pleasure Island and Skeleton Key Room. Revenge comes with no strings attached.

The Tooth Fairy: This twisted tooth fairy steals more than just baby teeth as he drags his victims out their bedroom window and into a world of deranged dentistry.  Unbelievable special effects include a blackout room through which guests must feel their way out, a disorienting x-ray strobe light room, and new this year, an all-new Skeleton Key room…says aahhh.

Trick-or-Treat: Take a brave step forward and ring the witch’s doorbell…trick or treat, which will it be?  After surviving her grisly welcome, wander into the Green Witch’s never before seen potion room and bewitched attic. But don’t leave too soon; you’re the special guest at the Green Witch’s deadly dinner party where she and her menacing Tricksters await your arrival.

Voodoo – Order of the Serpent: The haunting legend of Papa Legba continues as guests follow him on his foreboding journey to conjure the serpent demon goddess in the outskirts of New Orleans. Trudge cautiously through the cursed swamps of the Deep South, where creatures search the murky bogs for their next bloody sacrifice and demons curse the innocent with Voodoo hexes. Guests who are brave enough to venture through the Skeleton Key room may fall prey to a defiled ritual.

Infected Returns even better this time! New Guns, and more Zombies! I love Infected.

Back by overwhelming demand, guests can enlist to fight the zombie apocalypse in an all-out war against the undead in the interactive experience, Special Ops: Infected – Patient Zero. In 2014, the ambitious new attraction was the first of its kind in North America and in 2015 continues to be the largest infestation of zombies nationwide. In 2015, the highly sought-after attraction will include more blood thirsty zombies, new missions, brand new high-tech laser guns, and more.

Special Ops: Infected – Patient Zero seamlessly integrates interactive gaming technology with an immersive mountainous landscape, delivering a breakthrough interactive haunted experience that is as terrifying as it is challenging.  Missions lead by brave Squad Leaders will take guests through a variety of wilderness terrains, including the unpredictable barrel bridges across the rushing river, through the dark caverns, and through mysterious backwoods. Groups must work together to fend off zombies and complete various missions before time runs out.  Six acres of the theme park is now home to mutinous, scream-inducing zombies, and the time has come for a harrowing Special Ops survival mission (limited spaces available).
